| I downloaded current bitcollider from bitzi.com/Bitcollider/bc-setup-0.6.0.exe 538k (v. 0.6.0, b1020)
scanned it with Mcafee Antivirus it showed up clean then I went to install it then Mcafee Antivirus popped up saying this,
One or more items were detected on your computer.
Detection name: Generic.dx!eca(Trojan), Generic.dx!eca(Trojan)
File: C:\Program Files\Bitcollider\`GLH0006.TMP
Process: C:\Documents and Settings\inforemoved\MyDocuments\bc-setup-0.6.0.exe
Process Description: C:\Documents and Settings\inforemoved\MyDocuments\bc-setup-0.6.0.exe
what is up with this?

| False alarm. They should have fixed that by now,
because they presumably have known about it for at
least a few weeks.
Check to see if you got your latest updates and if
so tell McAfee about the false alarm.

| Norton Internet Security 2009 also detects a trojan horse, in bitcoll.dll.
Also, is Bitcollider still being developed?

| There hasn't been a need for updates in awhile but yes,
the bitcollider Sourceforge project is still open.
That the program hasn't changed in a few years and
is open source should be enough to prove that the
AV scanners have gotten it wrong this time. If
you still have any doubts the source code is
available for anybody to check. The program is
so small you don't even have to be a programmer
to look it over and see the few things it does.
It's no surprise that another antivirus program
started giving false positives on the same file.
There's probably some sharing of data between
companies. The fact that the false alarms always
claim that bitcollider is a "generic" trojan is
proof that they are trying to use guesswork in
these cases, which will always falsely detect
some good software as trojans or viruses.
If you can't get your AV to leave bitcollider
alone, try the Java version for awhile until
McAfee and Symantec fix their mistakes.

| FYI, the bc-setup-0.6.0.exe software is the same as it has been since 2004. It appears that recently, some antivirus signatures have begun to misidentify it as a 'trojan' as 'low risk' but 'hidden intent'.
In order to appeal to the Antivirus vendors for review, I'd need to know the exact name and version number of the software (and for McAfee, the 'engine' and 'DAT' versions) that gave the warning.
So if anyone can currently prompt this warning, I'd appreciate the complete details of the software you're using, and an inidcation of how to trigger the warning. (For example, does it occur after running a scan, or installing Bitcollider, or when running Bitcollider.)
Thanks,
- Gordon @ Bitzi
