Bitzi General Discussion: Child porn on Bitzi

Child porn on Bitzi   [forward as email]
I want to thank Gordon and Mike for listening, banning and deleting a lot of the garbage on here. MANY more pedophiles and files need to be deleted. Also, I think it would be a good idea for the Delete child porn group to be deleted too. I am receiving messages from pedos thanking me for changing the child porn files names, because with the group, they can find all the videos they want by looking at our tags.

I honestly believe that there are more people on Bitzi who want this filth removed than people who want it to stay. Please delete more of it and the people who are downloading it.

Thank you,

Pam

I absolutely agree with you. Something should be done, ppl banned and files deleted. I'm glad that bitzi is taking this seriously, but they need to delete all pthc (I think it is) files. All that would need to be done by them is search for it, and delete them. Right?

I also think having a discussion group against child porn is a bad idea. It is a concentrated list of files, ripe for the perverts picking!

I think the files rated by the members should be deleted. Just a thought.....

It's now possible to 'flag' a bitprint's contributed metadata/ratings for administrative review. See my post today about policy updates for more details.

This should be a better way to address concerns than either a BitSociety or re-naming campaigns.

We're going to continue to adjust our policies and software over time to better deal with abuse, but this should start helping right away.

Let us know any questions or concerns. Thanks,

- Gordon @ Bitzi

There should be taken different measures than the simple deletion of such, because they would only appear again, spammed in different keywords on share programs.

What I suggest is better to make a page in which all of these offensive material (regardless it's child porn, illegal content in any other way etc) that basicly says the file is bad, illegal and such, and shouldn't be downloaded. It's a lot better than simply deleting them so others would, suspecting or not, report them, maybe under an assumed name.

I have changed many a file name to illegal child porn, do don't dl, illegal, etc... I does NOT help. All it does is lump all the files that we're trying to get rid of, together for the perverts. espada, you're idea would basically do the same thing. Lump it all together so it would be VERY easy to find. I think all the people sharing the child porn and the one's who gave it a positive rating, as well as the files should be deleted!

A simple way to stop relisting of unwanted files is to keep "administratively" deleted bitprints from being submitted again by checking hash values in a short banlist. A simple list of hashes would never grow to more than a few hundred thousand files. Boiling it down to a short tree and applying it to submissions by just dropping hits without further processing would be an efficient and subtle way to dispose of one particular headache.

Let them think it's just a bug in the system. :)

I was actually refering to redirect them to a costumized page, or in a way Erakun explained. He just explained better. Cheers!

Good idea. Both of you.lol

I have "flagged" so many C-Porn files it's not even funny! Why aren't they GONE yet?

It was a good idea in theory, but I guess it's not going to do anything.

Re: Child porn on Bitzi   [forward as email]
tara4u, I haven't noticed you using the new 'flag' function at all. (It's a link at the bottom of 'correct'/detail pages, near the other 'add new tags' options.) Please give that a try when you notice abusive material.

For all concerned: comments about abusive material inside 'filename' tags or judgments are not as helpful as flagging.

In particular, adding other filenames, either to condemn material or to try to hide it from searches, can actually make administratively identifying and wiping that material more difficult.

For now, the 'flag' tag is the best way to help, and future administrative/automated steps we take will largely be based on what we're learning from reviewing 'flagged' content.

Re: Child porn on Bitzi   [forward as email]
What i can not understand when you are looking for decent movies or regular porn in the search menu there are many many titles named as child pornogrophy Would it not be easier to delete these titles and ban everyone associated with these titles or are they regular movies renamed to child porn is there a way to see who changed the name of the file and if so are these individuals being turned over to the police and can it be linked to there ip address whats even worse is that a child porn movie is renamed to say john wayne and i download john wayne and it turns out to be child porn even though i delete the file it would still show on my hard drive i had this file maybe it would better for all of us including Bitzi to not allow name change in the database but would that stop them from renaming the file before uploading it to limewire or other torrents but either way the ip address should be linked somehow to the person originally who updated the file this would aide the police and bitzi as well as its dedicated subscribers

Re: Child porn on Bitzi   [forward as email]
What exactly does "flagging" files achieve? I have yet to see any effect.

Deleting or hiding these files from Bitzi is stupid and counter-productive. If people come across these files they won't know it's child pornography until they've downloaded and inspected it. Basically, you would be pretending child porn doesn't exist on public filesharing networks.

Further, the only harm done by downloading these files is that you're turning yourself into a criminal because possession of such content is illegal almost everywhere in the world.

What's more important is that distribution of such content is also illegal everywhere. It is obviously more likely that someone who distributes this content created it than someone who downloaded it. That means whenever someone is making such content available by sharing it, you can and should immediately report all available information to the police:

http://www.fbi.gov/innocent.htm

In fact, by listing such files in Bitzi, you make it much easier to discover and identify peers sharing such content. Yes, the downside is that is also easier to download these files, in theory. Again, little harm is done, especially no children are abused by this. It is much riskier for people to share these files if they are easy to identify as child porn. In the long run, that means these files will not be available at all, despite - or actually because - they are listed by Bitzi.

There could be done something regarding the filenames in Bitzi though. They should not be obfuscated but some of these sound like an advertisement and misleading names should be removed from identified child porn.

Maybe you also want to restrict searching and only allow lookups by SHA1, so that people cannot easily abuse Bitzi to search for the newest child porn although that would no very effective because there likely other ways to search for it, like searching directly on the filesharing networks.
