Bitcollider 0.6.0 Released   [forward as email]
The first official Bitcollider release in over a year is now available for download.

Notable additions to this release:

  • Bitcollider calculates and submits the KZHASH identifier used by the latest (2.6) versions of Kazaa and Grokster. (MAGNET links at the Bitzi website will include this identifier whenever it is available.)
  • A video format plugin is included and extracts information such as framerate, framesize, duration, bitrate, and codec from most AVI, MPEG1, MPEG2, and QuickTime videos. (Thanks to bitizen Delirium for this code!)
  • A problem in the original construction of the TigerTree hash value has been corrected. (Only values from updated software will be retained at the Bitzi website.)
  • Calculation of MD5 and CRC32 values is now optional, controllable by command-line options (or for the Windows GUI version, registry settings).
  • The Bitcollider source code should now compile and run properly on Mac OS X. (It may still be necessary to manually open the submission HTML file in a web browser. We welcome suggestions from Mac users on the proper next steps to create a native installer, and to integrate fully with the desktop and default browser.)
As always, the Bitcollider source code is released to the public domain, for the widest possible community reuse.

We look forward to your questions, comments, and suggestions. Thanks for your support of the Bitzi project!

- The Bitzi Team

The -m option for mozilla is missing. The workaround for this is to open mozilla and open the file /tmp/bitprint.html in the browser and it automatically submits it to bitzi.

Mozilla   [forward as email]
This doesn't work with Mozilla and I have set it to be the default browser on my system as all other pages are opened in Mozilla.

Re: Bitcollider 0.6.0 Released   [forward as email]
Since it's been two years since the last Bitcollider release, it's safe to say we won't see a fix for the Mozilla problem any time soon. Firefox is affected too. Here's the workaround for any browser (in Windows XP):

Run Bitcollider and have it process a file. Keep Bitcollider open after it's done processing.

You'll now need to open a LOCAL file, as in a location on your hard drive. In Firefox and in most other browsers, you can do that by clicking File -> Open File.

The file you want is located at: C:/Documents and Settings/(your windows username)/Local Settings/Temp/bitprint.htm . Simply open it in your browser and it will already contain all the data that Bitcollider gathered for the file you processed, and after about 2 seconds it will automatically submit the info. You'll then see the Bitzi page for it and you can rate the file etc.

This file (bitprint.htm) is created and replaced whenever you process a file in Bitcollider. You will need to open it every time you want to submit a Bitzi report, so it would be wise to create a bookmark to it in your browser, or a shortcut on your desktop.

Bitcollider Browser Fix/Patch (Browser won't open, etc)

I had an issue with my browser not opening regardless of which browser I had set as default.

This patch fixes the issue for me. (I haven't encountered any issues thus far.)

Bitcollider.v0.6.0.b1020.Browser-Patch.zip

Note: also included, simple instructions on how to create the patch yourself.
